Designer Spotlight: Maxilook

8Ryu Seok is the creator and designer of Maxilook, a Seoul based fashion brand that primarily focuses on maxi skirts and dresses. Recently, IFBK and Maxilook held a special event seen HERE. Rye Seok started her business back in 2010 after many years of struggling to find dresses that were long enough for her tall frame. She really loved the look and style of maxi skirts and dresses so she decided to start buying them through European online shops. Realizing that she could potentially make them herself, she starting learning how to make patterns and design clothing. In 2010, she officially launched Maxilook and hasn’t looked back since. Her love for fashion is apparent in the design of her dresses, especially when they grace your body.

Why the name Maxilook?

She enjoys wearing maxi skirts and maxi dresses because of the dramatic feel it gives a look. When she was creating her brand name there were many options, but she chose Maxilook because it perfectly represents her favorite clothing.

What are your inspirations?

She is inspired by famous collections, her travels, and by women who wear maxi dresses at resorts.

4 What is the price range of your clothing?

Items from Dongdaemun are approximately 20,000 – 40,000 won ($20-40). Premium items made by Maxilook are about 50,000 – 100,000 won ($50-100). Usually Skirts are 60,000 won (~$60), and dresses are 80,000 won (~$80).

5 What are your goals for the future?

As the first maxi dress shop in Korea, she wants to show more items made by Maxilook, and to open a bigger show room to help customers. In addition, she hopes to establish a premium brand that provides reasonable prices, and customized items/services for all shapes and sizes.
